Formatting content
The same writing tools can format Updates, Courses, and Docs. This lesson uses the formats while explaining what each is for.
Headings and text
A heading starts a new section and makes a longer page easier to scan.
A smaller heading
A smaller heading can group a detail within that section. Regular paragraphs carry the explanation. Use bold for a key term, italics for occasional emphasis, and a link to Docs (opens in a new tab) when readers may want more detail.
Lists
Use bullets when the order does not matter:
- A change to announce
- A topic to teach
- A detail to document
Use numbers when the order does matter:
- Draft the content.
- Review it.
- Publish it.
Callout
A callout makes a short, important note easy to notice.
Table
A table helps readers compare the same details across several items.
| Format | Useful for |
|---|---|
| Paragraph | Explaining one idea in a few sentences |
| List | Showing a set of items or steps |
| Table | Comparing items side by side |
Code block
A code block keeps spacing and punctuation intact. It is useful for commands or examples that someone may need to copy.
