Fieldbook is a lightweight learning and knowledge platform. It gives teams a shared place to explain changes, maintain useful information, and teach through structured courses.

Learning and knowledge in one place

People need different kinds of help at different moments: an explanation when something changes, instruction when learning a task, and a reference while doing it. Fieldbook brings those needs into one spot, with a small set of formats that are easily maintained by humans or agents.

Authors create and update material in the same application people use to read and learn. The aim is useful structure without the work of managing a large learning system.

Updates, Docs, and Courses

Each content type has a distinct job. Imagine your team changes its expense policy:

ContentJobExample: A policy change
UpdatesExplain changes and perspectivesWhat changed, when, and why
DocsMaintain a referenceCanonical policy and process
CoursesTeach a taskWalkthrough of how to follow the policy process, with examples and a quiz

Use the formats people need; a policy change does not automatically need a course. An opinionated structure explains the design choices behind these formats and the shared library.

Your installation and the demo

Fieldbook is free, source available software designed for independently run installations. An installation is a separate instance of the software with its own accounts, content, data, and settings. Your organization operates it and decides what to publish.

The project's home, thefieldbook.org, is itself an installation of Fieldbook. The Fieldbook project explains the source project, its availability, and what running an installation involves.

Try the interactive demo (opens in a new tab) to explore a fictional organization with sample people and content. Changes stay in your browser. Using the demo does not create an installation for your team.
