Card artwork

Updates, Courses, and curricula can use generated artwork or an uploaded image. Choose the design, give generated artwork a short title, and check how it crops on the cards readers browse.

Generated artwork and uploaded images

Generated artwork uses Fieldbook’s built-in design motifs and artwork generator and your installation’s artwork palette. It does not ask an AI service to create an image. Shuffle artwork explores another design while avoiding recent repeats in that editing session.

An uploaded image replaces the artwork area above the card’s text. The card still has its normal title, summary, and other information below the image.

Docs do not use this card-artwork control. Images within an article or lesson are managed separately; see Images and video.

Change an Update or Course card

Contributors and Administrators can change artwork while editing an update or course.

  1. Open the item in Content, then find Card artwork in Details.
  2. Choose Artwork source.
  3. For Generated, write the Short title and use Shuffle artwork until the preview suits the item.
  4. For Upload image, choose a supported image and wait for uploading to finish.
  5. Check the preview and wait for the draft to save. Select Publish when the artwork and other changes are ready for readers.

The Short title can differ from the full content title. It allows up to 40 characters and appears within two lines on generated artwork. Use a short phrase that remains recognizable at card size, such as “Expense essentials” for a course titled “Submit an expense with the right evidence.”

Changing an existing card’s artwork is a draft edit. It does not reach readers until publication. Changing Course artwork does not by itself require a new Course version.

Upload and replace an image

Card artwork accepts non-empty JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF files, subject to your installation’s upload limits.

Use Upload image for a first image and Replace image for another. Remove image returns the card to generated artwork. Selecting Shuffle artwork also switches the artwork source to Generated.

Wide images crop to fill the card. Keep the main subject away from the edges and avoid putting essential instructions or small text inside the image. The artwork control does not provide a custom crop or focal-point editor, so prepare the image before uploading if its composition needs adjustment.

Check both the editor preview and the published card. A design that looks clear at a large size may lose its subject when displayed in a smaller card.

Curriculum artwork — Administrators

Curricula use the same artwork choices in their editor. Open the curriculum, adjust Card artwork, and select Save curriculum to keep the choice. Saving changes to a published curriculum updates its visible artwork; there is no separate draft-publication step for those edits.

Curricula covers creating, publishing, and maintaining these ordered collections of Courses.

The installation palette — Administrators

Generated designs use the artwork palette in Manage organization → Identity. That palette gives generated cards a shared visual identity across the installation. It is separate from an individual card’s design choice and does not recolor uploaded images.

In Identity you can review several existing generated cards before changing the palette, since the setting affects their shared appearance. Set up your organization covers the installation’s branding and navigation settings.
